Unseenlabs at the European Space Conference

This week, Unseenlabs’ CEO and cofounder Clément Galic took part in a roundtable entitled “Making Europe à New Space Hub: Boosting European space entrepreneurship 🇪🇺” at the 14th European Space Conference in #Brussels.

The discussion focused on the development of young European space companies with contributors Geraldine Naja, Director of Commercialisation, Industry and Procurement at the European Space Agency – ESA, Guillaume de La Brosse, Head of Unit Innovation, Start-ups and Economics, at DG DEFIS – European Commission, Portugal Space | Portuguese Space Agency’s President Ricardo Conde, Nicolas CAPET, Chief Executive Officer at ANYWAVES, Nadine Smolka, Missions Manager at Exolaunch, moderated by Torsten Kriening from SpaceWatch.Global.

One of the conclusions that emerged is that without public funding the development of the European space sector will be limited. The technologies are here and services are operational. Young European space companies are ready and willing to stay in Europe. But to be able to grow and compete with China and the U.S, European funding is needed.

Clément Galic stated: “We are quite the leader on our technology and we are perfectly aligned to scale up and become a big company but for that we need more public procurement. I hope the next step for Unseenlabs will be in Europe. Why should we have to move?”.

Anywaves’ CEO and cofounder Nicolas CAPET added: « We want to maintain Europe at the Highest level compared to USA or China. We want to change the world & maintain European space at its worldwide level. »

During the 14th European Space Conference, ESA’s Director of Commercialisation, Industry and Procurement Geraldine Naja declared: “Supporting companies and startups to have access to private funding is an important objective for us”. A sentenced that resonated among the European New Space players!

Thus, we are delighted by the announcement by European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton of the launch of the Cassini fund, 1 billion euros for the next 5 years, aiming to support the development and growth of Space Startups and stimulate private investment. One more step towards converting words into actions! 🚀
